Kristin Carlson

Kristin Carlson’s research focuses on the extension of accessibility metrics to unique transportation infrastructure contexts. Kristin has explored accessibility measurement using alternative destination types, units of time and money, and for diverse populations. These areas of research seek to improve accessibility measures by increasing their utility against established transportation performance measures. Kristin’s master’s thesis developed methods for incorporating managed lane corridors and park-and-ride facilities into accessibility analyses. Her recent work focuses on equity measurement using accessibility statistics to capture differences by mode and group at national, state, and local levels.

Kristin has developed best practices for implementing accessibility measures through the diverse range of research projects she has delivered. She has performed numerous scenario evaluations for exploratory and contract projects managed by the Accessibility Observatory. These projects have established new ways to visualize and communicate accessibility concepts through graphical and online tools. Additionally, Kristin supports business development, literature collection, and documentation activities at the Accessibility Observatory. She has a master's degree in civil engineering and is a non-degree seeking graduate student in the School of Statistics and Department of Computer Science at the University of Minnesota.
