Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

NARRATIVE First considered a rare fungus in clinical settings, Cryptococcus neoformans emerged to become one of the world's most problematic opportunistic killers affecting those with weaken immune systems. As a consequence of the burden of cryptococcal meningitis associated to AIDS pandemic, the medical mycology community stepped up to face this challenge, brought in a number of new investigators and explored different angles of the fungus and disease it causes. One consequence was the organization of the International Conference on Cryptococcus and Cryptococcosis (hereafter ICCC), held approximately every three years since 1989. This proposal seeks funding for conference support for the travel of students and post-doctoral fellows presenting research abstracts at the 11th ICCC meeting in Kampala, Uganda in January 10-14, 2022.
