Description

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. We have obtained 3,4-PCD (protacatechuate 3,4-dioxygenase crystals which diffract to 2.0 angstrom. The space group is P1 with the cell parameters 96.55, 97.59, 119.19 114.06, 90.4, 117.88. The asymmetric unit consist of (alpha)2(beta)2. We would like to get higher resolution data and get the structure of 3,4-PCD and substrate analoge complex structures by soaking. Studying 3,4-PCD and its various complexes as well as mutants has tremendous significance in improving human health, understanding the catalysis of metalloproteins and reclamation of aromatic compounds.
