Abstract
The segmentation of univariate and multivariate geological traces is discussed. Competitive algorithms in order of statistical optimality are 1) global optimization of the likelihood by dynamic programming, 2) hierarchic optimization, and 3) split-moving window. On the criterion of computational requirements and ease of programming, this order is reversed. -Authors
