Abstract
Observations on the occurrence of roots at 1.5-3 in., and shoots at 4-6 in., above the root collar. The trees (ca. 9 years old) were growing on a good White Pine site under a well stocked, mature stand, and had been treated by various forms of bark disturbance (inversion of whole or partial rings, removal and replacement of rings). The production of adventitious shoots was apparently stimulated by bark disturbance, but adventitious roots appeared equally on untreated controls.
