Abstract

In this work I analyze La Florida del Inca by Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, where the author recounts the history of Hernando de Soto's expedition to Florida from the reading and re-writing of the chronicles of Oviedo and Gómara, to which he adds other sources from the European Renaissance historiography. The mixture of these works to analyze a historical event occurred in the American context produces a new interpretation on the events narrated, in which the vision of the history is more complex and full of nuances than the sources. The most important result is the representation of the historical event from a perspective different from the official historiography of the conquest in which a victorious discourse prevails.
