Abstract

Seed proteins for all subgeneric taxa of North American Zizania were analysed electrophoretically. A total of 34 seed protein subunits were resolved by isoelectric focusing (IEF). Each of the analysed samples had a unique profile, although subunits were highly conserved. Jaccard coefficients were calculated from the IEF data and subjected to non-metric multidimensional scaling. No taxon-specific banding patterns were identified, although IEF data support unidirectional introgression as a source of variation in Zizania aquatica.
