Abstract

To foster greater classroom participation while also helping students to take better class notes, an alternative lecture delivery method was introduced. A tablet PC was incorporated into lectures, allowing the instructors to annotate PowerPoint slides of weather maps, charts, and electronic copies of figures from the textbook. Students were provided with an outline of the lecture PowerPoint slides prior to class and subsequently filled in the missing information as the instructor annotated slides during the lecture. It was found that using the tablet PC to deliver course content as well as discuss current weather resulted in more active student participation in the classroom and increased their note-taking skills.
