Abstract

The precise contributions of the basal ganglia to the control of normal movement and the role of these nuclei in pathophysiologic mechanisms of movement disorders are poorly understood. This paper considers selected aspects of the functional organization of the basal ganglia, and the neuronal coding of movement parameters in these nuclei.
