Abstract

This analysis of farms in Central America and the Caribbean looks at: the adoption of agroforestry; economic analysis of agroforestry systems from the farmer's perspective; economic and institutional analysis of projects promoting on-farm tree planting in Costa Rica; economic and institutional analysis of agroforestry projects in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Dominican Republic, and Haiti. The final analysis is made in terms of agroforestry's role in farming systems and profitability, extension strategies, level of agroforestry adoption, social and environmental benefits, and institutional and policy implications. -B.Walls
