Abstract

Population balance equations provide a rigorous framework to describe the dynamics of growing cell populations. Because cells are so small their dynamic properties usually cannot be measured directly. Flow cytometry data can provide access to this information and thus parameters of the population balance equations can be determined which makes application of this theory possible.
