N2 - Temperature recovery of a parallel, counter-flow heat exchanger can be shown to be inversely related to heat recovery. The optimum selection of area depends on many factors, not the least of which is cost. Conditions of use such as condensation, dust accumulation, heat and air leakage affect the performance. Normalized curves have been prepared to help in the selection of parameters but tend to confuse the operation. The theoretical development of these relationships have been combined with a proposed design for a 10,000 bird turkey growing barn where fuel savings are estimated. A design equation has been developed based upon fan capacity, exchanger area along with house and outside air temperatures to estimate the heat recovery expected.
