Diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of short stature in children: Twin cities community standards

A group of pediatric endocrinologists in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota developed consensus guidelines for the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of children with short stature. These practice guidelines were developed with two goals in mind. First, we were responding to requests from primary practitioners to clarify their role and responsibilities in the diagnosis and monitoring of short children. Second, insurance companies and health maintenance organizations needed input from pediatric endocrinologists regarding the standard of care for short stature and growth hormone therapy. This consensus statement is based on current medical and scientific standards and will require continuous revision as our medical knowledge changes and grows.
