Prof. Luscombe’s research covers a broad range of polymer science, and her interests and expertise range from syntheses to applications of polymers, with a particular focus on improving the understanding of π-conjugated polymers. On the synthesis front, Prof. Luscombe’s research group has focused on developing controlled polymerization methods and more recently on using CH activation for the synthesis of π-conjugated polymers. The polymers that her group prepares using various controlled polymerizations are used by many other research groups internationally in furthering the understanding of how π-conjugated polymers behave. In the applications space, Prof. Luscombe has led research in her group focused on using polymers for photovoltaics, and she has a growing interest in stretchable electronics and bioelectronics. Prof. Luscombe recently coauthored a Perspective in Macromolecules3 and a Viewpoint in ACS Macro Letters4 highlighting recent advances in using CH activation in the synthesis of π-conjugated polymers as well as describing ongoing challenges for future improvement and utility. Prof. Luscombe is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK) and has received a number of awards recognizing her stature in the field including the Sloan Research Fellowship in 2010 and the Society of Synthetic Organic Chemistry Japan Lectureship Award in 2017. Please join me in welcoming Prof. Luscombe to our team of Associate Editors.
