Abstract

This paper presents an analytical study on the non-Darcy mixed convection along a vertical surface in a saturated porous medium. The limiting cases of natural and forced convection are also examined. Similarity solutions are obtained for the special case of an isothermal surface. The non-Darcy effects, which include the inertial and thermal dispersion effects, are examined in detail. Both aiding and opposing flows are considered in this study. It is found that the inertia effects decrease the heat transfer coefficients for aiding mixed convective flows but increase them for opposing flows. Dispersion effects enhance heat transfer rates for both aiding and opposing flows.
