title = "Examining the effect of deck placement time on the behavior of composite pretensioned concrete bridge girders",
abstract = "The method for estimating prestress losses proposed by NCHRP Report 496 (Tadros, et al., 2003) was adopted into the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications in the 2005 Interim Revisions (AASHTO, 2005). The new method introduced an approach that divided time-dependent behavior into two time periods: 1) before deck placement, and 2) after a cast-in-place composite deck is introduced in the system. The division has complicated the calculations for estimating prestress loss, especially since the design engineer often is not able to anticipate the time of deck placement with any certainty. This paper examines the need for the separation of the two time periods through comparisons with a rigorous time-stepping procedure for time dependent analysis which is developed within.",
