EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF GROUND-COUPLED HEAT PUMP SYSTEMS.

Abstract

An earth-coupled heat pump system was installed and operated successfully under Central Texas conditions. Tests indicate that a heat exchanger, with only 53. 5 m of wetted pipe, is marginal. It appears that a full 68. 5 m of wetted heat exchanger will be required, in order to maintain temperature of water entering the heat pump below 35 degree C, when operating in the cooling mode. Minimum length of vertical heat exchanger per ton of cooling was determined. Vertical deviation of bore holes should be taken into consideration when spacing vertical heat exchangers.
