Abstract
The relationships of fashion and health are explored in this focused issue of the Clothing and Textiles Research Journal. The impetus for the issue came from a symposium hosted at the University of Minnesota titled Fashion and Health. Five articles represent the broad range of research being conducted by textile and apparel researchers who focus on some aspect of fashion and health. One article details factors influencing choices in tanning behavior, while another article explores attitudes toward using online shopping as related to viewing models with possible effects on body satisfaction. Three articles present perspectives on fashion and health related to a wide range of special populations including disabled consumers, roller derby athletes, and a teen with type I diabetes. Textile and apparel researchers are encouraged to carry basic and applied research to the next step by developing educational programs, making presentations to interested audiences, and seeking out opportunities to implement research in relevant and timely ways.
