Abstract

This paper develops an abstract framework for analysis of linear thermoelastic systems. Linear semigroup theory is used to establish the well-posedness. Sufficient conditions for the exponential stability and analyticity of the associated semigroups for the thermoelastic systems are obtained via the frequency domain method and a contradiction argument. The results are applied to linear thermoelastic rods, beams and plates of homogeneous and nonhomogeneous material with various boundary conditions.
