Abstract

The so-called 'Reiner Effect' of centripetal pumping is discussed with reference to Reiner's original experiment and to experiments carried out by the authors. They were unable to repeat the effects reported by Reiner, nor to confirm this hypothesis. Other phenomena however, were noted which may be important in understanding the processes by which very viscous liquids are rapidly coated on to solids
