Abstract
To the Editor: Krolewski et al.1 and Mangili et al.2 (Jan. 21 issue) propose that the cohort of patients with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus in whom diabetic nephropathy is destined to develop may be composed of patients with a genetic predisposition to essential hypertension. Although the mechanism of this association may be difficult to determine in patients, some insight can be gained from the examination of data obtained from experimental models.
