Heat: An Entropic Practice of Contemporary Dancing

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Chapter 9 ties together the analytical strands of the argument in this manuscript by way of current discourses—interweaving understandings of intersectionality and assemblage, “re-existence” as a mode of retooling existent categories toward decolonization, and willfulness as a mode of claiming space, for instance—and connects them to the production of energetic heat and centralized location of alterity at the core of contemporary dance along a South-South axis. The last segment reflects on some of the questions that animate the author’s own choreographic work in order to emphasize the detailed and scrupulous investigation of power relations inherent in the claiming of alterity.
