Abstract

Imaging devices allow us to document, examine, measure, and map the structures of the cornea and anterior segment. The advent of optical and digital technology has spurred a wave of new devices that augment our standard, familiar equipment. These devices use unique optics and ultrasound technology to perform their tasks. Each device has its own strengths and limitations. Understanding these characteristics and the basic principles behind the operation of these devices will assist the doctor in choosing when to use a specific device and as to how to interpret the resulting data. This article will discuss devices used to image the cornea and the anterior segment and their most common uses.
