Abstract

This chapter provides an overview of the construct of self-esteem, interventions for low self-esteem, and a guide for assessing and treating low self-esteem in youth with tic disorders. A cognitive–behavioral conceptualization of low self-esteem is described, followed by strategies for assessing the presence of tic-related low self-esteem. The last portion of the chapter details specific cognitive and behavioral strategies clinicians can use to treat low self-esteem in youth with tics.
