Abstract
Thermoplastic or hot-melt pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) products were developed that form large residual adhesive particles during repulping operations. The larger PSA particles that develop are removed with high efficiency at the pressure screens early in the recycling process, thus significantly reducing or eliminating PSA contamination. The influence of paper face stock on PSA removal efficiency was also examined. The results show that environmentally benign PSA products can be accomplished with modifications to the PSA, paper substrates or both.
