Abstract

Microresonator Q drops dramatically as one moves from the mid-wave to longwave infrared. Since diamond is transparent beyond about 7μm, a 1mm diameter diamond microdisk resonator was fabricated. Its Q was measured to be 980 at 9.448μm, which is about an order of magnitude higher than other long-wave infrared cavities reported to date.
