Abstract

The entertainment industry is unquestionably one of the most powerful and prolific, having a large impact on our society and culture as a whole. Over time, libraries have begun to recognize the importance of incorporating new entertainment media, such as film, music and videogames, into their collections in order to foster new research and meet information needs. However, library literature is limited in its discussion of the types of resources available to aid librarians in their entertainment-related collection development decisions and reference requests. A number of free resources exist on the open Web. This review will examine one of those sources: Metacritic.
