Abstract

System-level simulation is an important component of hierarchical top-down design flow for analog and mixed-signal systems. Done accurately and correctly, system-level simulation can help predict when the circuit operates best and also when and where it fails. This paper discusses an improved method for system-level simulation of continuous-time delta-sigma modulators (CT ΔΣM). Each building block of a CT ΔΣM and the inherent non-idealities associated with each block are explained and techniques to model and implement them in MATLAB SIMULINK [15] are proposed. Simulation results are compared and discussed on a case study of 4th order CT ΔΣM.
