Abstract

Out-of-plane magnetization in disk-like structures was demonstrated by introducing a suitable underlayer with tailored deposition conditions. A Ti underlayer increased the perpendicular anisotropy of CoCrPt dots by inducing a c-axis normal to the film plane. Dots with low aspect ratio showed single-domain structure with perpendicular magnetization.
