Abstract
The conditions for the optimality of an extrusion die for a rigid-plastic material were discussed. The concept of optimal deformation for an incompressible isotropic rigid-plastic material was also investigated. It was shown that for general billet and product cross-sections the assumption of streamlining leads to an overdetermined system.
