Abstract
The author reflects on how his professional journey from Singapore-as an international student, then as an international educator and an intercultural higher education administrator-has necessarily involved multidisciplinary explorations in the theory and practice frameworks of multicultural counseling, multicultural education, intercultural education, and international education. Goh describes how Josef A. Mestenhauser’s principles sustained inquiry and practice as he navigated several disciplines in a science-practice pursuit of intercultural competence. Also addressed is how this interdisciplinary body of work on intercultural competence intersects and contributes to diversity, equity, and inclusion discourse. Embedded in this journey is Mestenhauser’s view of international education as complex, multidimensional, interdisciplinary, intercultural, and global.
