Abstract

In this paper, the impact of energy integration on the dynamics of batch process systems is analyzed. It is shown that energy-integrated batch process systems, similar to their continuous processing counterparts, exhibit two-timescale dynamics. The notion of fast and slow dynamics in the context of batch process systems is also elucidated with the help of a simulation case study. The analysis presented demonstrates the additional control challenges caused by integration for batch process systems.
