Abstract

A study was conducted to demonstrate an organotemplate-free and fast route for synthesizing beta zeolite by the addition of calcined beta seeds in aluminosilicate gel in the absence of any organic templates. The study found that the addition of beta seeds improve the growth of beta crystals in the aluminosilicate gel and reduces the crystallization time. The study also found that beta zeolite has opened micropores that can reduce the environmental pollution and production cost. The study used a transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to characterize the crystallization of beta-zeolite. The synthesis process was conducted at a temperature of 140 °C for 17-19 h in presence of beta zeolite seed of particle sizes of 60-100nm. The study proved that this route can avoid the calcination of organic templates in beta zeolite for the consumption of energy.
