Abstract

At the meeting in Boulder, Colorado, in December 1994, that led to the formation of the University Consortium for Geographic Information Science UCGIS), the delegates identified the promotion and coordination of GIScience research as a major goal for the fledgling organization. Over the following 18 months, this general objective was instantiated in Columbus through the process described in Chapter 1 of this book. By the end of the Columbus meeting, many of us were exhausted-but UCGIS had 10 Research Priorities, with writing teams identified to flesh out the topics into White Papers. Great, but what next?.
