Abstract

A novel catalyst was chosen for the conversion of biomass. The liquefaction of biomass was carried out in a stainless autoclave with rice husk, pubescens, and corn stalk as raw materials, ethylene glycol as liquefaction solvent, Cl-/ZrO2-Fe2O3 as catalyst. ZrO2 and Fe2O3 did not form solid solution. The results of liquefaction process showed that the Cl-/ZrO2-Fe2O3 catalyst had high activity for all the three biomass used. Corn stalk was completely liquefied at 573K, 3hr, and 4% (wt % of the reactant) Cl-/ZrO2-Fe2O3. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 2007 AIChE Annual Meeting (Salt Lake City, UT 11/4-9/2007).
