The journal was initially contacted by the authors to request the retraction as they reported that results were not reliable because the relationship between the centroids derived from Fe-XANES and the Mössbauer-determined Fe3+/ΣFe ratios of clinopyroxene and orthopyroxene standards could not be reproduced. The Fe3+/ΣFe ratios of experimentally synthesized clinopyroxenes and orthopyroxenes, and hence reported values of Dcpx/meltFe3+ and Dopx/meltFe3+, could not be verified nor reliably compared with thermodynamic models. The figures, tables, and text sections that are in error include: Figs. 2, 3, 4, 10, 11, 12, 13, and Table 4, as well as Section 3.3.2, 4.3, the Discussion and Conclusions. The editors assessed the case and decided to retract the article. The authors apologize for any inconvenience caused.>.
