Abstract

Thermophysical properties of rocks depend strongly on their mineral composition, the storage temperature, and on the history of periodic temperature application (cycling). Long-term and large-scale rock bed thermal storage systems expect operating ranges between 200 degree C and 500 degree C. for which little and only scattered information is available. This paper presents a collection and critical review of experimental data from the literature on specific heat, thermal conductivity and diffusivity of representative rock forming minerals and dense (nonporous) rocks between ambient and 773 degree K.
