Abstract

Electronic searching of a literature database is a skill and an art that can be learned and refined. Librarians are specially trained and skilled at using these databases, so seek help to maximize efficiency. Formulating a search strategy and thinking about key concepts are helpful first steps. Techniques available in the electronic interface to the database, such as reviewing your search history and using commands to combine parts of your search, enable refinement of initial search results. PubMed is a free and publicly available scholarly database that contains citations about WOC nursing. With practice, a WOC nurse can soon become sophisticated in searching databases, such as PubMed, to support evidence-based practice.
