Abstract

Kumada-Corriu coupling with aryl chlorides containing two ortho substituents remains difficult; coupling reactions of chloroacenes that contain peri-substitution are even less studied. Coupling of peri-substituted tetrachlorotetracene with aryl Grignard reagents at low temperature yielded diaryindenotetracenes, likely due to a cross-coupling and a subsequent annulation via C-H activation. Organic solar cells incorporating the target diarylindenotetracenes have displayed promising photovoltaic properties.
