Abstract

The activities of the IEEE Control Systems Society (CSS) Technical Committee on Smart Grids (TC-SG) from January to June 2013 are discussed. The main activity involved the completion of the IEEE SGV-CS in May 2013 under the leadership of Anu Annaswamy. This project was sponsored by the IEEE Standards Association to develop a long-term vision of what the smart grid would look like in a period of 20-30 years and what the control systems community could contribute to achieve this objective. The Smart Grid Vision Project would be chartered with creation of a set of use cases, applications scenarios for smart grid, and corresponding enabling technologies for smart grid of the future. The project should be targeted to produce publishable products. The vision of developing such a smart grid should not be limited by the existing technological, regulatory, business paradigms, standards projects, or product plans.
