Abstract
This chapter offers an overview of the nature and constitutive elements of the archive (place, logic, conservation, value) by examining the limit that circumscribes it or the edge by which its form can be perceived. It also marshals a case study from the field of contemporary art through which to demonstrate that, like the photograph of a photograph, the sound recording of recorded sound allows us to understand the archive's strange ontology.
