Abstract

This paper examines the relationship between an English factor, John Harrison, and a Moroccan Sufi rebel, Abu Maá̧¥illi, in the first quarter of the seventeenth century. Although the two men never met, the revolt that Abu Maá̧¥illi led against the Sa'dian rulers promoted mahdist/messianic goals which intersected with the commercial and eschatological strategies that Harrison was pursuing in Morocco.
