Abstract

At the heart of the "culture change" movement in aging services is promoting and restoring the elder's choice, control, and self-determination. Yet aging service providers, specifically nurses, have struggled to fully grasp this concept and embed it into long-term care and supports despite policy, educational, and grassroots efforts. This article explores the influence of those efforts on the person-centered transformation of long-term-care supports and services, and nurses' perspectives on how they have adapted their care practices for resident choice and self-determination in daily routines and care..
