Abstract

Monodisperse model compounds based on MDI and BDO were synthesized. Differential scanning calorimetry and gel permeation chromatography were used to study the thermal degradation of these MDI/BDO based urethane compounds. From quantitative GPC analysis, the degradation kinetics can be readily obtained from the peak heights. The degradation mechanisms were studied using infrared spectroscopy and gas liquid chromatography. It was found that both the MDI/BDO pure hard segment oligomers and the polymers degrade at elevated temperature.
