Abstract

In 2050, the built environment and the practice of architecture will have changed exponentially. The influential writer and editor Thomas Fisher, a Professor at the School of Architecture and Dean of the College of Design at the University of Minnesota, explains the impact of the Third Industrial Revolution on architecture, and how it will lead to self-generated mass customisation, coupled with a denser sustainable, urban form. Responding to this context, architects will need to become highly collaborative 'design strategists, bringing together whatever disciplines clients need to help them achieve their organisational goals.'
