Abstract
In the concluding chapter to a volume containing the final manuscript of foundational scholar-practitioner of international education Josef A. Mestenhauser (1925-2015), the authors describe the concern they shared with him about the dangers of complacency in the field. They discuss systems theory and “frames” utilized by Mestenhauser in his final work, and how the work relates to the contributed chapters, and they advocate for a systems approach in the field. They conclude with four specific calls to action for international educators related to leadership, mindset, diversity, and theory, through which Mestenhauser and the volume illuminate pathways for inquiry and future practice.
